SUCCESSFUL HAPPY ADOPTIONS

Dulce has made a world of difference in my life. She adds such fun and love to my life.   In 2011, I was going through some tough times adjusting to civilian life after the military and needed a companion. I had hoped to adopt a puppy and a kitten together but when I arrived at the Kokomo Humane Society in Kokomo, Indiana, I realized that it wouldn't be financially feasible. I held most of the cats in the adoption room and I heard a kitten sneeze and he caught my eye and immediately stole my heart. His name was Shadow and he was 7 months old. His companions were deploying to Afghanistan and didn't have any family to leave him to. He had already been neutered, all of his shots were up to date, and all he needed was to be microchipped (a requirement for adoption at KHS). His adoption fee was $20 instead of the usual $120-130. I tried to adopt him but didn't have any money and fortunately, my parents called in their card information from Idaho to adopt this cute kitten for me. I went back to the humane society to pick him up just an hour later and when I got him in the car and out of the box, he immediately curled up in my lap and started purring. His name is now Jameson and he's over a year and a half old.     This wonderful active duty couple stepped up to adopt a veterans dogs while he worked on readjusting to cilivan life...This adoption was the very first one - with special circumstances - for US Vets Adopt Pets.org. It was heartbreaking when a Veteran called seeking help in re-homing his beloved dogs due to life circumstances. As is usual in the wonderful Veteran/Active duty community, two families stepped up, each taking a dog, with love and respect for the Veteran needing help.

MWD's (War Dogs) are usually adopted by their handlers after discharge. The handlers dedication and commitment to their partners is phenomenal

Vets Adopt Pets has assisted U.S. Military Veterans in facilitating numerous companion animal adoptions from pet shelters since May 2011.  In addition, Vets Adopt Pets has referred Veterans & Active Duty personnel to service organizations that provide trained service dogs to U.S. Military personnel. Vets Adopt Pets has also assisted Veterans who needed to give up their beloved dogs while they reorganized their lives. Our non-profit division U.S. Vets Adopt Pets is accepting applications from Veterans and Active Duty to our program as well as donations from the public at large to help pay the adoption fee.
