Outreach

We EMBRACE & CELEBRATE THE HUMAN-ANIMAL BOND

The human-companion animal bond benefits both animals and humans emotionally, physically & down to the depths of ones soul.

Vets Adopt Pets Programs all center on promoting pet shelter adoption and thanking our Veterans for their service to each of us with adoption fee waivers from shelters or paying the adoption fee for Veterans.  To date, we have referred to other agencies dedicated to Veterans and the funding sources to pay adoption fees.

We have also recently created a non-profit division at U.S. Vets Adopt Pets.org to raise funds to pay the adoption fee for Veterans.

On average, we assist 6-8 Veterans a month for adoption fee payment or fee waivers, 8-12 a month for service dogs, and 15-20 for service dog information or clarity.   In addition, we attempt to contact 3-5 shelters a week to request adoption fee waivers for Veterans.  These numbers increased for August 2012. We expect them to increase minimum 10 fold as troop withdrawal increases.  In addition, these numbers do not adequately represent our work as a suicide preventative measure, because people do not call us about that part.  Nor do they reflect the many people who call for reasons pertaining to Military Family issues, military sexual trauma, & PTSD.

"This dog did more for me in three weeks than any medication any doctor has every prescribed," Costich explained. "He senses when I'm having nightmares, and will wake me up [by nuzzling] me."
